LEARNED HELPLESSNESS EXPERIMENT - The Learned Helplessness Experiment, conducted by Martin Seligman and Steven Maier in the late 1960s, demonstrated how exposure to uncontrollable stressors can lead to a state of helplessness and passivity, influencing our understanding of behaviour and mental health.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE - In mental health means having permission to leave the ward for a period of time. You might be able to go on your own, with a friend or a member of staff.

LESBIAN - A woman who has an emotional, romantic and/or sexual orientation towards women. Some non-binary people may also identify with this term.

LESBOPHOBIA - The fear or dislike of someone because they are or are perceived to be a lesbian.

LIBIDOIST ASEXUAL - An asexual person who experiences sexual feelings that are satisfied through self-stimulation or masturbation but does not engage in sex with others.

LGBT - The acronym for lesbian, gay, bi and trans.

LGBTQ+ - The acronym for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer and other identities.

LIFE COACH - Life coach helps someone find the path between where they are now and where they want to be. It is about setting and achieving goals in many areas of life including business, health and wellbeing, career, relationships and work-life balance.

LITTLE ALBERT EXPERIMENT - Conducted at Johns Hopkins University between 1919 and 1920 by John B. Watson and Rosalie Rayner, the Little Albert experiment aimed to provide experimental evidence for classical conditioning of emotional responses in infants.
