PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING POLICY
1 in 4 Revolutionaries are committed to ensuring safe environments for adults, children and young people and believe that it is always unacceptable for anyone involved in the group or group activities to experience abuse of any kind. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of any person actively involved the group, and the wider public who access the signposting services or fundraising activities. This policy applies to volunteers, and or anyone working on behalf of 1 in 4 Revolutionaries.
We recognise that:
The welfare of the individual is paramount.
All people, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
We will work in partnership with people, carers, and other agencies in promoting the individual’s welfare.
THE PURPOSE OF THE POLICY:
To provide protection for the attendees who participate in our activities.
To provide volunteers with guidance on procedures they should adopt in the event that they suspect an adult, child or young person may be experiencing abuse or harm or be at risk of harm.
1 in 4 Revolutionaries define harm as ADULT at risk of abuse or neglect For the purposes of this policy, adult at risk refers to someone over 18 years old who, according to paragraph 42.1 of the Care Act 2014:
has care and support needs is experiencing, or is at risk of, abuse or neglect as a result of their care and support needs is unable to protect himself or herself against the abuse or neglect or the risk of it.
If someone has care and support needs but is not currently receiving care or support from a health or care service they may still be an adult at risk
PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING POLICY
CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE - are defined as those persons aged under 18 years old. This policy will apply to all board members and volunteers and will be used to support their work.
“Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children” is defined in Working Together 2018 as: protecting children from maltreatment
preventing impairment of children’s health and development ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
1 in 4 Revolutionaries will seek to safeguard vulnerable adults, children and young people by: valuing them, listening to and respecting them.
Sharing information about safe working practice with board members, volunteers, carers, and the wider community.
Sharing information about concerns with agencies who need to know and involving relevant people appropriately.
If in doubt we will seek advice from the relevant safeguarding board
1 in 4 Revolutionaries will review this policy each year in line with Safe Network guidance or sooner in light of any changes in legislation or guidance. All changes will be immediately communicated to our board members, volunteers and anyone who are involved with our activities.
